Special Rules

Both Ears Must Be Visible

OCI photos strictly require both ears to be clearly visible. Hair must be moved behind the ears. This is stricter than the Indian passport requirement where ears are only preferred.

White Clothing Prohibited

White clothing is not permitted because it blends with the required light background. Wear contrast-coloured clothing (dark or coloured, not white) that is clearly visible against the light background.

Light Grey Background (Not White)

OCI photos require a plain light grey background (#EBEBEB), not pure white (#FFFFFF). This is a key difference from Indian passport photos which require white.

Baby & Infant Photos (Under 1 Year)

Eyes do not have to be open. Expression and line of sight requirements are relaxed. A frontal photograph with clarity is required. The baby must be alone in the photo with no toys or other people visible. Mouth should be closed if possible.

Children (Under 10 Years)

Head height and eye position requirements are somewhat relaxed. Neutral expression with mouth closed. The child must be alone in the photo with no chair backs, toys, or other people.
